What matters to me most about my kids’ lives?

I want my kids lives to be fun.  It all comes down to that single simple thing.  When they have kids of their own, I hope they will fondly recall the love, support and opportunity we tried to provide them.  I hope we are successful in not only giving them the tools but also the desire to pass those values along to their own kids.  I want them to remember their childhood for all the enjoyment it provides rather than as just another step toward adulthood.

What drew me to Playborhood??

We were all kids once and we survived.  How many times have you heard that line and in how many different situations?  I believe that my childhood environment and experiences - good and bad - have a great deal to do with who I am.  Our kids deserve to become who they become without being programmed by us.  They can only do that if they have the opportunity to independently learn how to enjoy life.  Playbourhood is about finding ways to let our kids have the opportunity to play - to experience the fun side of life.

My Recommendations

You can’t tell a child what fun is - they just know.  If you let them be, they will do.  If you let them learn, they will grow.  If you love them, just let them go… but tell them they have to come home when the street lights come on!

My favorite childhood play memories?

Riding my bike, with my friends or with my family, all over town.  Uptown, downtown, to school, to play… anytime and any day.  Plus a bunch of other stuff mentioned in my response to Mike’s Manifesto.

Bio

Chris Churchill, Intergalactic Adventurer, spent his childhood in a number of small towns in Southwestern Ontario and recently settled down in Oakville where he hopes to establish lasting roots.  His adult journey began by studying architecture and then graduating with a degree in political science and history from the University of Western Ontario.  He immediately set aside all that learning to pursue a career in communications which he still does today as a consultant, advising small businesses, corporations and not-for-profit organizations across Canada and in the U.S.  With two young children, Chris can’t help but remain young at heart.  His involvement with Playbourhood allows him to combine his professional skills with his determination to share the best of his own childhood experience with his kids and his neighbourhood.
